Chance and Direction Series
San Francisco, San Francisco Art Institute
Four grid-based paintings, one floor runner and three wall paintings, installed at the San Francisco Art Institute
Grid paintings on wall: 60" x 60" external edge, Floor runner 48"w x 25' long
Grid painting on floor: 4' x 20' (approx.)
Influence by the writings of John Cage, I was exploring the intersection of chance and direction in this series of paintings. The floor piece in particular represented a pathway, a hopscotch of small paintings leading to an unknown destination. We control aspects of our life, but chance influences also, often in a positive way. This is my interpretation, I invite you to have your own.
